Happy New Year

This is our first post on this blog. We wish everyone a happy and prosperous new year. We are looking forward to a bright future. This year had births (of our third grandchild - see EMU Babe blog) and death (far too many including friends) and a lot of uneasiness financially for everyone including our family and some health issues- like I had major surgery that added another hole to my head which I did not need).

We did not get to travel much this year due to medical and financial problems, but hopefully we will in 2009, but we did travel a lot the years before. We had to cancel our trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico which we have been to before, but hopefully we will make it there next year as well as many other parts of Mexico.

I have been to Mexico more than twenty times since my wife is from the State of Puebla, the beautiful and quiet city of Atlixco with its fabulous view of Popocatepetl (the smoking volcano) and a very large indigenous population and a great market day (Tianguis). Although, many people fear traveling to Mexico now due to all of the news about drug cartel violence, I know a lot of people who have traveled safely this year. -

like one San Diego newspaper article stated that "there were fifty killings but only three did not deserve it." (HUH? like some people deserve being beheaded and executed?)

If anyone follows simple rules of traveling, there should be no problems traveling. If you need a lot rules and travel tips, my favorite book about Mexico and traveling in general is "The People's Guide to Mexico" by Carl Franz which I believe is in its zillioneth edition - always get the latest edition of this great and fascinating book which I have been reading since 1970. It is not a touristy where to stay and eat book - get a free AAA guide, but it tells you everything else.

I may tell a little about my adventures to Mexico, later. My daughters remind me of them all of the time.

Right now I am just trying this blogging out.
